Fire Alarm Equipment Testing Chart
Testing frequency and advice
In order to demonstrate compliance with current fire and safety legislation, it is good practice to record all your safety equipment checks and maintenance records in a log book. If you are inspected by the Bristol Fire Safety Authorities, you can easily show how you maintain your fire safety systems. Standfast Security Systems provide qualified engineers for installing and maintenance of all Bristol fire alarms systems.
Please click to download a Fire Alarm and Equipment Testing Chart that details which items of fire safety equipment should be tested and how frequently. It gives advice on how to test and who is responsible for ensuring it is done and recorded.
The chart explains testing of:
- the fire alarm system including smoke and heat detectors, call points, the control panel and the whole system
- the emergency lighting
- fire doors and exits
- fire extinguishers

Call points should be tested in rotation. Check smoke detectors weekly. The whole system should be tested quarterly.
