CCTV Installers Bristol

CCTV in Bristol Homes

According to the Which Survey in April 2009, only 2% of homes are currently protected using CCTV in the UK. This percentage is gradually increasing however as the cost of CCTV installation to homes and business premises has reduced over the past few years, and as people recognise its benefits in preventing opportunistic crime, in increasing people’s feelings of safety and in leading to convictions – once criminals know they have been caught on camera, they admit the offence much faster leading to quicker court cases.

CCTV in Public Places in Bristol

CCTV was originally installed in public places to prevent theft, assault and car crime. Police forces find it invaluable when bringing convictions to court. Today closed circuit television is often installed as standard in new housing schemes and by residents’ associations. CCTV systems can help combat anti-social behaviour such as drunkenness, vandalism, loitering and harassment. Recently it has been installed in Stapleton Road, Bristol to reduce crime in the Easton area. A Bristol council spokesperson, speaking to the Eastville News in 2009 said,

"The area has long been recognised as being affected by crime and anti-social behaviour and it has always been the ambition of Safer Bristol and local residents to have more CCTV coverage in the area. This stretch of Stapleton Road is also a key route into the city and has been earmarked for one of the showcase bus routes under the Greater Bristol Bus Network.
She added: "The city's Safer Bristol Partnership – which involves not only the council but also the police, fire and rescue service, the health service and a range of other agencies – is funding the cameras for approximately £120,000, paid for through Home Office grants that have secured.”

However CCTV surveillance cameras are not a cure-all. They work best when combined with other techniques to prevent crime.

Types of CCTV System

There are basically two types of CCTV system with different camera types available for each situation:

• Indoor CCTV
• Outdoor CCTV

Whether you are a home owner, local authority or business or educational establishment you may want one or both of these options in the Bristol area.

Outdoor CCTV cameras

CCTV cameras can be wireless or wired. Wireless systems suffer from interference from routers, mobile phones and microwaves and are not always reliable. Therefore we do not recommend them for the Bristol and Bath areas.

All the CCTV systems at Standfast Security Systems are wired, whether indoor or outdoor.

Outdoor CCTV Surveillance Installers

  • Set up your cameras in a position where maintenance and cleaning are easily carried out, but which are not easily accessible to burglars or “errant youths”
  • Ensure your cameras are weatherproof with an International Protection Rating of at least 66
  • If you are a home or business owner, talk to your neighbours. The costs of a CCTV system can be shared and a whole street can benefit from your initiative
  • Make sure the cameras do not point at public places or other peoples’ houses or gardens to comply with Privacy Laws
  • Remember that CCTV systems work best when combined with other crime prevention measures such as installing a burglar alarm, keeping hedges well cut back and installing good quality door and window locks
  • If unsure where to position cameras, contact a professional Bristol based CCTV installers such as Standfast Security Systems

Indoor CCTV systems

Indoor systems can be wired, wireless or powerline networks (this means they plug into electrical sockets and send the images to your dvr or PC). Again, we do not recommend wireless systems as anyone with a suitable receiver within range can view the images so Standfast Security Systems only provide the more secure wired types of indoor CCTV system.

Indoor CCTV Surveillance Installation

  • We recommend this is done professionally so that each camera performs efficiently and full coverage is given
  • Consider where a burglar may seek to enter your property. Rear entrances, side doors not visible from the road, unlocked windows, sheds and areas where there are high value items all need to be covered by your surveillance system
  • Demand high quality footage for your system – A minimum resolution of 352x288 pixels is required for indoor and outdoor images. This allows police and others to use your pictures to help solve a crime in the unfortunate event of a break in or damage
  • Make sure your storage system uses a widely used format such as MPEG so that images can be downloaded to Police systems if necessary
